Afghanistan War Not Going Well

    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is off to Afghanistan amid rising awareness that the war there is not going well. Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) started under George W. Bush in response to 9/11 was supposed to be a short war whose victory was announced in the now infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech of May 1, 2003. That day he announced the end of major combat in Afghanistan, but after almost a decade the war in Afghanistan is not going well. Believing is his own propaganda on the need for war (neoconservative) George W. Bush focused on Iraq declaring Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in March of 2003. OEF was left to fester. The Taliban, the rightful rulers of Afghanistan (and during the Soviet war our allies) whether we in the West approved of their law or not, were quickly over thrown and defeated. In the vacuum created by the long and unexpectedly difficult war in Iraq which gulped up resources, the Taliban regrouped. In 2010 Al Qaeda is weakened and on the run by all reports, but the enemy who attached us on 9/11 linked by a common agenda persists, popping up in all kinds of places. An enemy albeit on the run but growing on other places is not a defeated enemy. 

    My heart sank when candidate Barack Obama made George Bush's war in Afghanistan his war. His options now in office are more open to political attack from the right. So, rather than a serious look at a war that on current course by any honest estimate will take ten mores years all the while enduring a continuous trickle of blood (July 2010 one of the deadliest so far) costing trillions and mostly importantly with no certain victory. The President could have made the case to get out of Afghanistan and focused on how to fight an enemy now expanding globally. He could have talked of the changing nature of this war and hand over Afghanistan to the United Nations to do what it takes to stop the killing. Perhaps an negotiated end of hostilities with Taliban is the best way forward. This would be an honorable way out of a war that was supposed to destroy our enemy but has not, and also points the direction of our ship of State toward the rule of law. We need to focus our energies on how to use our economic and military forces on winning the peace, to end the Age of Terrorism peacefully if at all possible. The only deal we would make with the United Nations is to guarantee us that Afghanistan is no threat to us or anyone else anywhere for that matter, for we reserved the right to hit them with our phantom bombers on sight when our intelligence is solid. We will not fire first unless we see a credible threat. Or our enemy can surrender to the World Court in the Hague. Submit to Justice or we will kill you. I believe a clear majority of "we the people" will follow such bold leadership. If not, we get a chance to vote in 2012 for a different course. These dangerous times require bold action and the only choice is do we trust our future to the rule law or war? (War or Law). Any honest description of President Obama shows us the bravery on the global stage the Nobel Peace prize had anticipated is not there. At least not yet. It is not too late to correct course when course correction is needed. We need to get out of Afghanistan ASAP and there is a way to do it with honor and still keep our eye on the ball. This would be the first step to victory on ending the age we live in peacefully. Having thus put our air and navy military to work in defending us, our land force are free to work with the forces in other nations to enforce the rule of law, globally. (West Point) Global police (Global Warrior) will need special force units to enforce the law. We the people will work with humanity to make this happen, all the while we have the right to defend ourselves. It is clear to see only the rule of law will prevent the horror that is down this path of war unending characteristic of humanity at the beginning of the 21st Century. 

   Humanity has dreamt of global law (Vision) from ancient times for how else can there be the peace on earth we all so dearly pray for? The age of the super carrier may be needed to keep all the globe within the reach the rule of law, (giving all three branches of our military for which we have spent tens of trillions of dollars, the people's army, in conjunction with humanity  to achieve peace) for sure to enforce the rule of law, but also to deliver the special force units to enforce global laws when the global outlaw does not surrender. No one will be beyond the reach of the law when in violation of global law. I believe a majority of humanity will follow such bold leadership. Our great experiment in governance shall have passed on to humanity by making law have global reach what is so beautifully said in the first sentence of our Constitution. " We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The foundation of a socialist state by any current standards of political thought, and what is more so, notice that Justice was the first word the founding fathers and mothers enshrined. It is not yet too late for this generation of Americans to be the best generation yet, leading the way to a humanity to be ruled more and more by justice than by war. Is that not our greatest gift to our children? (Sacrifice) 

   Will our Secretary of State dare come back for Afghanistan and secretly let the President know we cannot win on present course, time to get out, time to go to the UN? The first step in charting a different course in the hopes of securing an enduring peace for humanity without having to endure the horror of World War Three.
