To Support International Courts or Not?
The Seminal Question in 2012
Reflections, November 20, 2010jsc
To support International Courts or not, this must be the seminal question before the U.S. electorate in 2012. The way of justice to prevent WWIII.
In 2010 a globalizing humanity continues to take steps to put into place systems of international and transnational justice, hopefully the necessary and sufficient steps to avoid World War III. The International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court of Justice are steps to humanity ruled less and less by war and more and more by law. Is it not interesting that the powers in the U.S. society that are most vociferously anti-international are also the most powerfully pro-war. Beware the military industrial complex Eisenhower warned would destroy us.
The international court system that is being contemplated is to take its next steps in 2017 to putting some teeth into the rule of global law. In 2012, are, ''we the people" going to support the rule of law president, if we could find one? For is that not what our Founders would highly recommend if they were alive today? The question for 2012 is do, "we the people" of the United States of America join with the majority of humanity in support of these steps to the rule of law globally applied? Election 2016 may be too late to help shape a world rule more by law and less by war. The pro-war voice is so much louder that the pro-law voice in the "land of the free". Why is this so? This means that those who are pro-war and those who want war could have such momentum that ends in World War Three. Ten years since 9/11 and the grand stage is being set, the great drama of our times is unfolding before our eyes. Will humanity take the next step to the rule of law globally applied, before or after World War III?
It could be argued that given what is at stake, there really is no other relevant question before the electorate in 2012. While humanity faces many difficult issues and concerns at the beginning of the 21st century, climate change and intractable debt to name but two, none is more critical than whether war or law rules our future.
Do," we the people" keep faith with our founder's vision (> First Line) of justice as supreme in 2012? Let history record, "We did".
Even so, my dreams tell me avoiding World War III will be a "close call".
